How to Apply

• Create an Online Account.

  • Create an online account at Ravenna, our online application system. In Ravenna, you will be able to track your application and find necessary forms to be completed during the process.
  • Once you have an account, choose Open Window Online to “explore.”
  • Please note – Open Window School also uses Ravenna. Both programs are part of Open Window School but are separate and distinct in the Ravenna system. Applications to Open Window Online are not sent to Open Window School and vice versa. While you are able to explore both programs, make sure you submit forms and payments to the intended program.

• Determine your Testing Requirements.

  • All applicants must submit achievement testing in reading and math (ITBS, MAP, Smarter Balanced Assessment, etc.). This can be standardized group testing from a current or previous school, or it can be administered privately.
  • The cognitive testing requirements vary depending upon each applicant’s unique situation. Please visit our Testing Requirements page to learn more about what is required and to determine the needs for your family.

• Attend a Virtual Information Session.

  • Our goal in this process is to get to know each family and learn about their needs as they explore Open Window Online. Attending one of our intentionally small Virtual Information Sessions is a chance for you to learn more about the program. Register for one of these sessions through our admissions portal, Ravenna. You will first need to create an account. If you have trouble creating this account, please reach out to our team here.
     
    Our Information Sessions begin in late September, and we will continue to post additional dates throughout the year, as necessary.

• Complete and submit your application and fee.

  • In Ravenna, complete and submit your application along with the application fee of $65.
  • Applications for the 2023-2024 school year will be accepted beginning September 1, 2022.

• Complete the parent/guardian statement

  • Complete the parent/guardian statement found in Ravenna.

• Schedule a personalized conversation with us.

  • As we continue to get to know each family throughout the application process, it is important for us to have a one-to-one conversation with you. These conversations will happen via Zoom and allow us to answer all your questions and help you understand how our program works. This is an important part of the process as you determine whether Open Window Online is the right fit for your family.
  • Schedule your conversation through Ravenna after submitting your application and fee.

• Submit an evaluation/recommendation from a current teacher.

  • Ask a current teacher of your child to complete and submit an evaluation through Ravenna. Talk with your chosen teacher first and then enter their name and email into the Ravenna system. An email with a link to the evaluation will be sent to the teacher to complete and submit. Teacher evaluations are not shared with applicants or families.
  • If your child is currently homeschooled, you can ask a sports coach or other unrelated adult that sees your child in an instructive capacity to complete the evaluation.
  • Please contact us if you have questions regarding the eligibility of a chosen evaluator.

• Attend a virtual applicant visit.

  • This event is for the students! During a virtual applicant visit, a small number of applicants will join one of our amazing teachers to experience a few activities that simulate the exciting learning adventures that are a part of our regular school program. These visits give the students an opportunity to experience an Open Window Online class and it gives our teachers an opportunity to get to know your child better.
  • Applicant visits can be scheduled through Ravenna.

• Request records from your current school.

  • Print and sign a records request form through Ravenna and turn it in to your child’s current school. We will ask for your child’s most recent report card/progress report as well as records from the previous two years and the results of their most recent standardized achievement test (ITBS, MAP, ERB, etc.). We ask for this information because, as a program for students identified as gifted, it is important to know that each admitted student is ready for the accelerated pace of our program.
  • If your child is homeschooled, please reach out and we can discuss the options for how to handle this requirement.
